5. PAC- Vermonters for a Democratic Governor- Sam Osborne
Modern political campaigns require that candidates for statewide office begin their campaigns eighteen months to two years before the Election Day. In Vermont, this is further complicated by the short time between the primary election and the general election. This short window gives the advantage to a candidate without a primary challenge and a distinct disadvantage to the candidates who have a primary challenger.
This campaign cycle in Vermont there are five Democratic candidates for Governor. This line-up ensures a time consuming and expensive focus for these candidates on winning the primary election. Coming out of the primary, the eventual nominee will be facing a Republican candidate who has been able to raise money, campaign on his own terms, study his eventual opponent in action and be well rested for the general election campaign.
The mission of Vermonters for a Democratic Governor is to level the playing field for the eventual Democratic nominee.
Vermonters for a Democratic Governor will be founded as a Political Action Committee and funded by the donations of Vermonters.
